The objective of this initiative is to create a Nordic network on the study of online disinformation and its effects on civil and democratic processes.
Online disinformation has emerged as a major threat to contemporary democracies; understanding its effects and devising solutions to prevent or handle these effects is an open research problem that so far has eluded solutions developed within a single discipline. As it has been pointed out in the report from the European Commission’s high-level group of experts on online disinformation, published in March 2018, there is a strong need to establish national and international competence centers and research projects taking an integrated approach to counter this problem.
In the context of this project, we are organising a series of Nordic workshops to gather researchers from different areas as well as actors from outside academia and to promote a multifaceted discussion of key issues such as how we define and measure disinformation and how we can respond to it.
This project has been funded by a NOS-HS Workshop Grant.
